BAYRAKOL

Research and Publication Ethics Policy — Bayrakol Medical Publishing

EDITORIAL STANDARDS

Research
Ethics

Research involving humans, animals, identifiable data, or biological materials must comply with internationally recognized ethical, legal and regulatory standards.

Ethical research — before the manuscript exists

Bayrakol Medical Publishing requires that all research involving human participants, animals, identifiable data, or biological materials comply with internationally recognized ethical, legal, and regulatory standards.

Ethical approval, informed consent, trial registration where applicable, and transparent reporting are fundamental requirements for submission and publication.

ETHICS COMMITTEE APPROVAL

Prior approval
Documented consent

Research involving human participants, animals, or clinical investigations must receive appropriate ethical approval before the study begins.

  • Human participants must receive prior approval from an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Ethics Committee (EC), and the manuscript should report the approval number, institution, and approval date.
  • Animal studies must comply with internationally accepted animal welfare standards and the ARRIVE guidelines, where applicable.
  • Clinical trials must be prospectively registered in a publicly accessible trial registry before participant enrollment.
  • Written informed consent must be obtained from participants whenever required by applicable ethical or legal standards.
  • Explicit publication consent is required for identifiable patient information, photographs, or other personal data.
  • Personal data must be processed in accordance with applicable data protection and privacy laws.

RESEARCH CONDUCT & SCIENTIFIC INTEGRITY

Helsinki
Accurate reporting

Research data, images, and third-party materials must be accurate, transparent, traceable, and used with appropriate permission.

  • Research involving human participants must comply with the ethical principles of the Declaration of Helsinki (2013 or later revisions), as applicable.
  • Data must be collected, analyzed, and reported accurately. Fabrication, falsification, image manipulation, and other forms of research misconduct are strictly prohibited.
  • Authors must retain and, upon reasonable editorial request, provide supporting research data, original images, study protocols, or other relevant documentation to verify the integrity of the research.
  • Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted or third-party materials included in their manuscripts and for providing appropriate acknowledgements where required.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS

Retrospective
Multicenter
Vulnerable

Edge cases still require clear ethics documentation — and stronger protection where risk is higher.

  • Retrospective studies must clearly document ethics committee approval or a formal waiver, where applicable.
  • Multicenter studies must obtain approval from each participating center or provide central IRB documentation.
  • AI-assisted research must disclose tools used and ensure patient privacy.
  • Studies involving vulnerable populations (children, prisoners, migrants, cognitively impaired individuals) require additional protective measures.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST & TRANSPARENCY

Declare interests
Follow reporting guides

Funding, sponsorship, study design, and reporting practices must be transparent throughout the research and publication process.

  • All financial, institutional, personal, or other relationships that could influence the research must be disclosed by all authors.
  • Funding sources, grant numbers, sponsor contributions, and the role of the funder in the study must be transparently reported.
  • Manuscripts should follow the appropriate reporting guideline for the study design, where applicable (e.g., CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, CARE, ARRIVE).

PUBLISHER RIGHTS

Documentation
Investigation
Correction

The publisher reserves the right to request supporting documentation, investigate suspected breaches of publication ethics, and take appropriate editorial action to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.

Editorial actions may include manuscript rejection, requests for correction, publication of an expression of concern, article retraction, or notification of relevant institutions, where appropriate.

Ethical research and responsible publishing require ongoing transparency, accountability, and cooperation throughout the publication process.
