Scoliosis secondary to osteoid osteoma: A case report of delayed diagnosis and 5-year follow-up

Our case of study is a 17 years old female patient who presented with painful scoliosis secondary to osteoid osteoma. The patient remained undiagnosed for years complaining of non-subsiding lumbar pain. Three years later, a thorough physical assesment and advanced radiological examination revealed that the patient’s complaint was related to an osteoid osteoma accompanying scoliosis. Surgical resection, fusion and instrumentation…

Researching the effect of radial nerve injury in humerus shaft fractures

Aim: Radial nerve injury (RNI) is a frequently encountered condition in distal humeral shaft fractures. However, few studies have researched the effect of RNI on fracture healing and extremity functions in patients. In this study, we examined the fracture union time and functional results of the extremity in patients with humerus shaft fracture and RNI. Material and Methods: Thirty patients…

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis after trauma

A 6-year-old female patient who had an out-of-car traffic accident, head trauma, increased fever during follow-up, splenomegaly and widespread maculopapular rashes in the whole body was evaluated as secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) according to laboratory findings of anemia, neutropenia, hyperferritinemia, hypertriglyceridemia and hypofibrinogenemia. Clinical improvement was achieved with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and steroid treatments. Interleukin 1 (IL-1), interleukin 6 (IL-6),…

Reformate images in lung cancer: Are axial images enough in preoperative evaluation?

Aim: The T descriptor not only reflects a potentially different prognosis but may also change treatment. Unfortunately, due to workload and time constraints, many clinicians only evaluate axial plans preoperatively. Since the longest tumor axis is not always aligned with the axial, we assessed the longest measured dimension of the entire tumor on reconstructed computed tomography (CT) in the lung…

Fetal idiopathic intracranial hemorrhage: A case report

Fetal intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is frequently associated with prematurity. It causes neurodevelopmental disorder by causing hydrocephalus and brain parenchymal damage. Fetal IVH is typically observed in the germinal matrix. This is due to the fact that the germinal matrix has a more fragile structure and is, therefore, more sensitive to hypoxia, anoxia, and acidosis and is rapidly affected by pressure…
