Serous or Gelatinous Atrophy of the Bone Marrow

Serous fat atrophy of the bone marrow (gelatinous transformation of the bone marrow) is a rare entity of unknown pathogenesis. It was first described in 1898. Serous atrophy may be associated with AIDS (Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome), alcoholism, anorexia nervosa, cachexia, carcinoma or lymphoma.
